Learn And Trust Your Intuition

How can you learn and trust your intuition? Maybe you’ve had that experience when all of a sudden you just had this huge ‘hunch’ that something was about to happen, and to your surprise, that ‘hunch’ was eventually translated to reality. That ‘hunch’ was your intuition.

Intuition Quote by Florence Scovel Shinn

What Is Intuition

Intuition is the faculty of knowing before you think about something.

The word intuition comes from the Latin ‘intueri’, which means “to look upon”. This refers to the ability to observe a situation instantaneously, without our perception or our logic acting as an intermediary.

When you feel strongly about something without a logical basis to it, that’s called intuition. It comes in two impressions: sensing clearly and feeling through listening.

Sensing clearly is basically what we refer to as “hunch” or “gut feel.” This is the time when you are overwhelmed with a feeling and you can’t explain it and all you can say is “I just know.”

On the other hand, feeling through listening is being able to “listen” between the lines. If you don’t feel an awareness of this listening’, you can start by learning how to listen to your intuition. Intuition also happens at times when a certain sound, whatever it is – a car’s honk or a bird’s tweeting – brings on an intense feeling.

Who Has The Gift Of Intuition

They say only a number of people are gifted with intuition. There is no such thing as someone with “poor intuition” or “no intuition”.

We all have an acute capacity to be intuitive. We are different only in our ability to integrate that intuitive sense with the rest of our conscious abilities. We often let our conscious abilities get in the way and question what we are feeling.

When we say someone has an especially strong intuition, what we are really saying is that he or she has a particularly well-developed ability to be aware of his or her intuition and not drown it out with other conscious processes.

Chakras And Intuition

The chakra which is connected to intuition is the sixth chakra, the Ajna chakra, is in the area of the known as the third eye, which is found in the space between the eyebrows.

The sixth chakra encompasses the pituitary gland, eyes, head, and lower part of the brain. An invisible yet powerful third eye, this is your centre of intuition.

A spiritual chakra, which means “beyond wisdom,” Ajna leads you to an inner knowledge that will guide you if you let it. When the sixth chakra is balanced and healthy, it can enable intuitive abilities including lucid dreaming, expanded imagination, and visualization.

The Sixth Sense

The sixth chakra can be described as what we popularly refer to as ‘the sixth sense’. We experience the world through the five senses – sight, taste, hearing, touch, and smell.

While you were still in the womb before birth, you heard noises like your mother’s voice, her heartbeat and you listened to muffled sounds outside. You experienced touch, taste, and even perceived light.

After the moment of birth, you have aligned your experiences with what you perceive through the senses. You’ve learned to trust your senses in what you can taste, smell, touch, see and hear.

Trusting the senses is great in life experience, but it limits you when it comes to expanding your spiritual awareness. This is where the sixth sense or sixth chakra plays a very important role and when it is balanced you learn how to follow your intuition.

There was a time when you had to rely on your sense of intuition and inner knowing. Just like birds can sense when a thunderstorm or heavy rain is going to start, or squirrels know when it’s time to gather food and nuts for the winter, humans too have an intuitive sense.

We have simply lost touch with our intuitive sense as well as our ability to trust in it.

How To Develop Your Intuition

Studies have been sprouting left and right that proclaim that anyone can develop intuition.

Why should you develop your intuition? Why not leave your emotional and psychological state as it is? First and foremost, intuition promotes good communication. It makes you more sensitive to the people around you.

It often keeps you from hurting those you love because you are intuitive enough to understand them. Intuition also makes you far more creative than ever. Intuition means releasing more creative juices for any means of expression.

Lastly, intuition has healing power. This healing power is not in the physical sense, but in delving deep into your soul to eradicate some negative energy buried in it.

With that being said, are you ready to develop your intuition? Learn how to develop your intuition and unlock this gift:

1. Balance Your Chakra Through Meditation

Just like any of the chakras or energy points, one of the best ways to balance the sixth chakra or the Ajna is through meditation.

The sixth chakra, or the Ajna, is the area to concentrate on to achieve heightened intuitive abilities.

Balance can be achieved through daily meditation and yoga practices. Meditating means finding peace in yourself. If your mind and heart are cluttered with too much baggage and hurt,  you wouldn’t be able to quiet down that part of you that could eventually initiate intuition.

There are so many ways to meditate: take a yoga class, or just simply practise some breathing that could bring you straight to a place of Zen.

Indigo is the colour associated with the sixth chakra and you can bring balance to it by incorporating the colour indigo around the home and office.

Chakras are associated with crystals which can be used to balance and heal chakras. Amethyst is the crystal that works with the sixth chakra, so carry or wear healing crystals such as amethyst.

Consciously focusing your mind on the area between the eyebrows (Ajna) each day also balances and energizes this chakra.

2. Think positive

A worry-free, fear-free state could do so much to improve your intuitive ability. When you stay positive, you attract good energy that would be able to easily recognize imminent feelings and events.

3.  Learn To Trust Your Intuition – Just let go

What does this mean? If you are on the brink of making a huge decision, let go of all the inhibitions and head to a quiet place where you could find out where the letting go has brought you. Sometimes you just have to listen to the voice within you, and that voice wouldn’t come out unless you learn to trust your intuition – just let go.

4. Never expect

After letting go of the inhibitions and all those things that stop you from thinking and feeling clearly, never expect an answer right away. Never expect that the “hunch” would fall on your lap immediately. Give it a little time then you would just get surprised that — wham! — now you have your answer.

5. Believe in your first impressions

When you see someone for the first time and think that person is quite shy and not the talking type, chances are that impression actually holds true. Most of the time, first impressions are brought by intuition.

6. Let Happiness Be Your Motivation

Happiness attracts immense power and such power includes intuition. By tapping your intuition, your motivation must be happiness and contentment. Given that premise, intuition will fall to you easily.

Final thoughts

Intuition is helpful because sometimes it leads you to something that cannot be achieved otherwise. A lot of lives have been saved by intuition alone. Decisions are easier to make if you’re armed with this gift. Develop and trust your intuition and reap benefits you may have never imagined.

  1. This is wonderful. For the past couple of years I have been burying my intuition due to life circumstances. I have felt not-like-myself. I have figured out that I can not do that anymore and I finally cleared my chakras and I am balancing them as often as I can. I finally got a “feeling” just within the past few days and I know something big is coming in my life. In the past I have learned to take pride in my “feelings” my “sixth sense” and others who are close to me have learned to trust it too. I will be getting back to it like you said it just takes patience and balance.

  3. Lemuel Sacop

Hello and thank you for this article! I had a sixth sense when I was still single until our first child and suddenly it vanished. But I won’t give any more details, those were really scary times. Nowadays, its just those hair-raising feelings that I encounter.

I really like how you constructed this article and I can relate to it on some situations in my life. Gut-feeling/intuitions that I might get scammed and really helped me tremendously in those uncertain times.

    1. Hi Lemuel, thanks for your feedback – happy you enjoyed the article and you were able to relate to it.

  4. Hey Ola, This is really a fascinating article. I did not know that there is no such thing as “low intuition”. I thought every one has it and some have poor intuition.

Your point about other things getting in the way of intuition is an eye opener. I think the influences from the world in terms of book knowledge and experiences of others are really affecting the proper use of intuition.
It is great that you described how to develop intuition as well.

    Keep up the awesome work.

    1. Hi Rajith, we all have the ability to be intuitive. It’s just that we let our conscious processes question our intuition rather than integrating both abilities. This is a very interesting topic open to various views. Thanks for your feedback.
